Boffins get the OS up and running
A keen set of researchers over at Dell have released an unofficial version of the new Google Chrome OS running on its Mini 10v netbook.
Just a week after the Chromium OS was released to the open source community for testing, Doug Anson, a Dell technology strategist, has finally reported success. It’s still very unstable, comes with no support and Doug warns “it’s definitely not perfect (read: highly experimental, untested, unstable, yada yada…) but it does appear to function.”
It wasn’t a simple process with Doug noting that it’ll take between five and ten minutes for the network connection manager to allow you to connect. He’s also keen to point out that downloading it is at your own risk and it comes totally unsupported and is tested very minimally.
For the rest of us, we’ll have to wait another year before seeing the OS and there’s still no word on any official Google Chrome OS netbooks, but in the meantime if you fancy your chances on a Dell Mini 10v or any Linux device you can download the code here.

google-chrome-logo_w300It has been announced that Dell have released an unofficial version of the new Google Chrome OS running on its Mini 10v netbook. Last week the “Chromium OS” was released as an open source operating system for testing. Dell have now reported success in making it stable to run on a netbook well.  It still needs alot of work although it will run, but many bugs and updates for it will be make available as they are produced.

The note that there were problems that include things like the network manager taking 5-10 minutes to connect up, this was one amongst some of the things that need readjusting. Dell also keen to point out that downloading it is at your own risk and it comes totally unsupported and is tested very minimally.

For the rest of us, we’ll have to wait another year before seeing the OS and there’s still no word on any official Google Chrome OS netbooks, but in the meantime if you fancy your chances on a Dell Mini 10v go out and get one.
